Grateful for the Smallest Things #CHOOSEGRATITUDE

Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Tumblr

Last night we ran a tweet chat—we were a small but might group. The topic #choosegratitude.

Here are the 7 questions we asked over a period of 30 minutes! A few answers stood out as pretty powerful. We thought we’d share them with you.

Q1: Why do you #ChooseGratitude as a mom or a dad?

@erinschurtz A1: Because the alternative makes life miserable… I’ve been there. It’s better to #choosegratitude

Q2: Who is someone you are grateful for that has helped in your role as a mom or dad?

@msbubbles3A2: My great grandmother for me—always there for me – teaching with patience

Q3: What are you most grateful for as a dad or a mom?

@erinschurtz - A3: Oh my gosh EVERY DAY I’m grateful my kids love each other. It makes the chaos more manageable!

Q4: Give us your best advice on how to turn a negative attitude upside down in parenting?

 – A4: Taking a step back and analyzing the situation helps!!

Q5: What are you most grateful for during pregnancy?

@MommaTBlog A5: I was grateful for a smooth pregnancy with my first.

@happygirlcom  A5: That both of us survived! My pregnancy was very high risk, only 9 other cases in the world.

Q6: How can we show gratitude to our husband/wife/partner in motherhood?

@JennellBStewart – A6:lots of hugs and kisses. Celebrating being great parents. Always telling him he’s a great dad.

Of course we needed to know what an adventure day date was…Tiara told us “anything from hiking, mtn biking or even snowboarding. Options are endless!”

Q7: How can we teach gratitude to our kids?

@JennellBStewart – A7: Lead by example, give selflessly, consider others first.

So as you can see sometimes it is just simple things that take up the most room in your heart.

Cold Weather Fashions For Your Winter Pregnancy

Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Tumblr

The beautiful, and at the time, pregnant, Eva Mendes took a lot of heat back in March when she declared war on sweats, “You can’t do sweatpants … ladies, No. 1 cause of divorce in America. Sweatpants, no!

images

But, Eva sweatpants are sometimes like a comfy, puffy blanket. And let’s face it, with our bellies popping and our feet swelling, some days we feel like throwing on a blanket is the best we can do. Now bring on the cold weather and some of our fashion choices make us look like the Michelin man.

Cold weather fashions tend to add bulk. Think fluffy, wool sweaters and puffy down vests! So we thought it might be a good time to share some winter pregnancy fashion tips  with you.

The Bump, Maternity Fashion section had a great article this week—9 Ways to Spruce Up Your Winter Wardrobe.” We especially loved this Scoop Top from Isabella Oliver. Easy to layer over jeans or leggings and it comes in 8 colors! And it is all about the layering when our pregnancy hormones kick-in.

The girls over at Fit Pregnancy have a thing for jackets “the casual jacket and the statement jacket.” Those girls also recommend a pencil skirt in stretchy suiting fabrics—helping you look sleek while staying comfy when you need to run to a meeting or spend the day in the office. And we recommend you check out the knee high wedge heeled boots from Laylajoy Dana—keeping your feet fashionable and comfortable.

Parents.com put together a wonderful winter pregnancy guide. There is lots of good information and tips in the article but if you are dressing for winter we could not agree more with #7—Spring for a Winter maternity coat. And have they chosen a beauty, Isabella Oliver’s gorgeous Melrose Maternity in white wool. This coat adjusts to your growing silhouette and is totally versatile for casual or dress-up.

Also check out #11 in this winter pregnancy guide. Your go to winter basics, so you are never at a loss. Black pants, black blazer and great jeans. Pair them with some long sweaters or layering tees and you are good to go. Plus they easily hide the “don’t quite fit me” phase!

And when all else fails, turn to the comfy maternity/workout pants aka (sweats) and layering tees from For Two Fitness—sorry Eva we think some sweats are just fine.unnamed-500x500

It’s Holiday Time—Let the Party Begin: Egg-Not Nog

Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Tumblr

There are so many wonderful flavors and spices to help you with your holiday treats and libations! Think pumpkin, cranberry, cinnamon, gingerbread, even nutmeg. And then of course, there is that love to hate holiday drink—egg nog.  Traditional holiday egg nog includes: heavy cream, egg yolks, sugar alcohol, oh and more sugar and maybe even bourbon. Come on, we know pregnant and nursing moms stay away from alcohol and let’s not even talk about loading up on all that sugar!

Luckily the great creators over at Nutrition Stripped have reworked this festive holiday drink and bring you the Egg-NOT Nog.  It is full of all sorts of great things like almond milk, cashews, macadamia nuts, warming spices, and even a hint of bourbon (if you are cleared for alcohol). Nutrition Stripped delivers this recipe way better than we ever could. So bump on over to Nutrition Stripped and prepare to create a holiday delight. Oh and just a side note, we at Mommi would also toss in 2 scoops of Vanilla, Mommi 3-in-1 protein to give this drink just the right amount of holiday boost.

Cold Weather Skin Issues? Nine Naturals Has You Covered

Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Tumblr

One of the best things about being part of Mommi, besides all the great ways we help women simplify their nutrition and take care of themselves and their babies, is how we get to team up with so many awesome Mom-centric brands.  And Nine Naturals is one company that we all really enjoy. They truly make beauty simple, smart and safe for moms and moms-to-be.

Today Nine Naturals shares a few of the lessor known elixirs and help you understand just what these plant-based oils can do for your “pregnancy glow”.

OilSpill

The physical changes that your body undergoes during pregnancy—swelling, stretching, and shining (AKA, “pregnancy glow”)—can all be controlled and/or comforted by indulging your skin in plant-based oils. Especially during the fall and winter seasons, when cold weather strikes and these issues are exacerbated, these natural elixirs can also prevent and soothe cracked, wind burned and chapped skin.

Plant-based oils are not only non-toxic and therefore, pregnancy-safe, they are also rich in natural antioxidants and vitamins, making them a powerful, all-natural alternative to chemical-laden drugstore moisturizers and skin treatments. Botanical plant materials are non-greasy and non-comedogenic, making them safe for all skin types, as well as easily absorbed into the dermal layers of the skin. They defend the skin’s lipid barrier from environmental pollution, and act as a humectant to keep the skin moist. You can use botanical oils singularly or combine them with other botanical oils–and even makeup–to maximize skin care health.

Argan and coconut oils, while both tremendously beneficial to skin, are only two of the many plant-based oils that can pack a punch with only a tiny drop. Here are six lesser-known oils that can cleanse, moisturize and reduce skin imperfections:

Borage Seed Oil: Produced from the Borage blossom, Borage oil contains essential fatty acids, including the highest naturally found concentration of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA)—an omega-6 fatty acid—that, when processed by the body, is transformed into a hormone like substance that inhibits inflammation. Used to reduce redness and minimize the appearance of stretch marks, this oil can be found in Nine Naturals Vanilla + Geranium Regenerative Belly Butter.

Tamanu Seed Oil: Tamanu oil, sourced from Southeast Asia, helps heal wounds and promote the generation of new tissue—a process known as cicatrization. This oil contains three type of lipids—neutral lipids, glycolipids, and phospholipids—in addition to calophyllic acid and calophyllife, as well as four fatty acids. All of tamanu oil’s components render it a superior non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent, which is why it is a featured ingredient in Nine Naturals’ Natural Belly Oil.

Mango Butter Seed Oil: Cold-pressed mango butter seed oil—a great source of essential fatty acids, including linoleic and oleic acids—contains tannins that give the oil anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antibacterial properties. Commonly used as a base ingredient in body care products, mango butter seed oil can soothe dry, chapped skin, as well as help combat eczema and dermatitis. Find it in both Nine Naturals Simply Natural Lip Balm and Repairing Body Balm.

Evening Primrose Oil: An essential ingredient in Nine Naturals Vanilla + Geranium Regenerative Belly Butter, evening primrose oil contains Vitamin E, GLA—one of the body’s essential fatty acids—and phenylalanine—a compound that can aid in pain relief.

unnamed

Avocado Oil: Extracted from the flesh of the avocado fruit, the super emollient avocado oil is rich in vitamins A, D, and E, lecithin, and potassium. The deeply penetrating oil, which is an ingredient in Nine Naturals Citrus + Geranium Soothing Body Wash, has anti-aging, anti-inflammatory and cellular regenerative properties, making it ideal for relieving dry skin and nourishing aging skin.

Jojoba Seed Oil: Native to the Sonoran and Mojave deserts, this fatty-acid rich liquid wax, which is an ingredient in Nine Naturals’ Natural Belly Oil, is most similar in molecular structure to sebum—the oil that your skin’s sebaceous glands produce—therefore, with continued use it will balance out your own oil production.

Experiment with a variety of plant-based oils to discover which one (or two, or three) is best for addressing your specific skin and body care needs. For a limited time, Nine Naturals is offering Mommi readers 15% OFF any Nine Naturals order. Use code MOMMI15 at checkout and cheers to indulging your skin this winter!

What You Put on Your Skin Really Does Matter—During Pregnancy & Beyond

Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Tumblr

Our friends over at Nine Naturals take extra care to be sure what you put on your skin is safe for you and your baby. Here’s a great, go to list of a few natural, alternative ingredients to look for when shopping for haircare and bodycare products!  Thanks Nine Naturals!

Follow @mommihealth and @ninenaturals on Instagram starting tomorrow (Monday, Oct 12) and just maybe you can win a great #babybelly giveway.

What you put on our skin can be absorbed into your bloodstream and passed on to your baby, so paying attention to what you’re putting in and on your body is especially important while pregnant and breastfeeding. Chemicals found in common personal care products like shampoo, makeup and moisturizer are often associated with developmental, reproductive and behavioral disorders, hormone disrupters, and cancer.

Nine Naturals

Luckily, Nine Naturals uses plant-based and high-performance ingredients in its line of haircare and bodycare products for non-toxic beauty before, during, and after pregnancy. Here is Nine Naturals’ list of high-performing, yet natural alternatives to conventional ingredients:

BROCCOLI SEED OIL
This exotic emollient helps prevents hair loss while promoting thicker healthier hair, soothe redness and inflammation, and hydrates hair and skin without leaving a greasy film by creating a protective layer that traps in moisture. Best part? Broccoli seed oil is a natural substitute for silicone–often found in cosmetic products such as leave-on skincare and haircare products. Find it in Nine Naturals’ Vanilla + Geranium Regenerative Belly Butter!

CUPUAÇU BUTTER
Found in the rain forests of South America, cupuaçu butter treats dry, damaged skin, combats free radicals in tissues, and protects and moisturizes skin by allowing it to attract 240% more water, fight inflammation, and improve elasticity! Because it is a good natural substitute for lanolin, Nine Naturals uses cupuaçu butter in its Unscented Moisturizing Body Cream and Vanilla + Geranium Regenerative Belly Butter.

11813248_10153449793297356_2994716956270732153_n

ARGAN OIL
High in vitamin E, antioxidants, and linolenic acid, argan oil is a super-effective moisturizer that has been shown to prevent and treat stretch marks by maintaining elasticity and preventing moisture-loss. Argan oil in Nine Naturals Mandarin + Ginger Restorative Conditioner gives lackluster postpartum hair a boost by hydrating roots and adding shine.

COCONUT OIL
Coconut oil, used in all Nine Naturals products, is a fatty acid and excellent replacement for butter and oils. On skin, this holy grail ingredient prevents stretch marks and alleviates itchiness on belly and breasts. It’s also a natural, moisturizing, and gentle cleanser. Use it to remove makeup, tame frizzy hair, and soothe cracked lips.
