The beautiful, and at the time, pregnant, Eva Mendes took a lot of heat back in March when she declared war on sweats, “You can’t do sweatpants … ladies, No. 1 cause of divorce in America. Sweatpants, no!”
But, Eva sweatpants are sometimes like a comfy, puffy blanket. And let’s face it, with our bellies popping and our feet swelling, some days we feel like throwing on a blanket is the best we can do. Now bring on the cold weather and some of our fashion choices make us look like the Michelin man.
Cold weather fashions tend to add bulk. Think fluffy, wool sweaters and puffy down vests! So we thought it might be a good time to share some winter pregnancy fashion tips with you.
The Bump, Maternity Fashion section had a great article this week—“9 Ways to Spruce Up Your Winter Wardrobe.” We especially loved this Scoop Top from Isabella Oliver. Easy to layer over jeans or leggings and it comes in 8 colors! And it is all about the layering when our pregnancy hormones kick-in.
The girls over at Fit Pregnancy have a thing for jackets “the casual jacket and the statement jacket.” Those girls also recommend a pencil skirt in stretchy suiting fabrics—helping you look sleek while staying comfy when you need to run to a meeting or spend the day in the office. And we recommend you check out the knee high wedge heeled boots from Laylajoy Dana—keeping your feet fashionable and comfortable.
Parents.com put together a wonderful winter pregnancy guide. There is lots of good information and tips in the article but if you are dressing for winter we could not agree more with #7—Spring for a Winter maternity coat. And have they chosen a beauty, Isabella Oliver’s gorgeous Melrose Maternity in white wool. This coat adjusts to your growing silhouette and is totally versatile for casual or dress-up.
Also check out #11 in this winter pregnancy guide. Your go to winter basics, so you are never at a loss. Black pants, black blazer and great jeans. Pair them with some long sweaters or layering tees and you are good to go. Plus they easily hide the “don’t quite fit me” phase!
And when all else fails, turn to the comfy maternity/workout pants aka (sweats) and layering tees from For Two Fitness—sorry Eva we think some sweats are just fine.
