It’s Day 11 of The 12 Days of Holiday Giving at Mommi & we are thrilled to honor Cara Terrell today – a mama with a beautiful story that we can’t read without crying. Nominated by her equally-incredible husband Dalton, here are his own words about his wife:
I had only known my wife to be for 4 months before I was shipped off to basic training with hopes that she would stick around and wait on me – and thank the Lord she did. 2 weeks after Basic we got married in front of the courthouse with no family or friends just a couple of guys I knew to witness the vows. Neither side of the family really supported us and everyone thought we were crazy to jump in so fast, but it’s those actions we took that put me here writing this today. After 2 months of marriage we both decided we wanted a baby and we tried from August until the end of that year with no luck but only the memories of about a dozen E.R. visits because of so many positive home pregnancy tests and early miscarriages. I had not been married to this woman a year, and yet I was faced with watching her emotions in the hospital because of failed attempts. March of the following year rolled around and we got another positive test, but this time our excitement was suspended due to our prior history. The next day we went down to the base clinic and it was confirmed that we were indeed pregnant. After about a week our excitement and spunk were fully alive again and we started to believe that we could really have a baby again. 7 weeks and 6 days had passed and my wife and I were only a day from getting to have our first ultrasound when our whole world turned on us. My wife woke me up crying from a dead sleep in the middle of night and told me we needed to go to the hospital. We rushed in and waited patiently for what seemed like forever only to be told that she was having another miscarriage and there was nothing the doctors could do. Yet again our faith was being tested. I can’t imagine what a woman must feel like when they have to go through such things and my heart goes out to any woman that does, I was heartbroken, but it takes a strong woman to go through such hardships. My wife is one of the strongest women I know, I get to go to work serving this country everyday and I’m the one that gets the credit for it, but truthfully its the military wife that should be getting the credit. That April we transferred to where we are now and we got connected with a fertility specialist who put us both through all the tests and procedures and finally told us we should try treatments. We declined, knowing that we didn’t have the finances to go through all the treatments, and my wife decided to go back to school to take her focus off everything. Almost another year had passed and we had completely forgot about trying to conceive when one night after dinner we decided to buy a test and sure enough she was pregnant with who is now our amazing son. I love this woman more than anything in this world and I could sit here all night and tell you stories of how amazing she is. Honestly I am just taking this opportunity to talk about her because she deserves to be talked about. My wife always puts others before herself and she sees the goodness in everyone and everything. I believe that the good Lord knew she had the faith to keep moving forward in life and to be strong and that is exactly what she did and now I watching her tonight as she is holding my son who is putting her through the ringer and yet it doesn’t even seem to phase her. She’s amazing.
