In Bethany’s words..Let me share a little bit about me. I live in Blackfoot, Idaho with my husband Steve and our 3 kids, ages 5, 4 and 8 months.
I work from home with Mommi and smaller companies as their Community Manager for Social Media. My dream is to someday open a baby boutique featuring upcoming and unique baby items with an indoor play room. Oh, and to cook something my family wants to eat 7 days a week. Right now I am only at 3 or 4…
My MOMspiration is Tenae. Tenae was my Sales and Marketing Manager at a hotel I worked for right out of college. She is a mom of 4 kids and a wife to a great man. She is so inspiring to me because she somehow ALWAYS has the right thing to say while having faced her own fair share of trials in life.
When I first started working for her, a week later I found out I was pregnant with my first. She had so much sound and solid advice. Soon after my first baby was born I came in crying, hysterical, because my husband was only home for 10 days at a time and worked for 21 straight in another state. I worked full time Monday through Friday, leaving very little time for our family of three to be together. Whenever he was home, all of his brothers, his parents and my family invited us to do so much. It was headache worthy trying to see everyone in the small amount of time we had—much less get a date night in.
But the biggest piece she ever gave me, outside of the BEST enchilada sauce recipe, was this, “Take the time you NEED to make your family have what it needs. The pressure you feel to see each and every member of your family and run around like crazy trying to fit it all into that short time span leaves no time for you and your husband to grow as a couple and much less for you to grow as the three of you. If your families want to see you, they can come to YOU. If they all invite you to something but there was a family activity you were planning to do, just tell them no. They’ll get over it. If they need a reason, give it to them. Your immediate family and their needs come first.“
To this day, we still follow Tenae’s sound advice. For Mother’s Day, we are going for a picnic after church, our little family of 5. Where? No idea, we’re just going to drive. Neither family has invited us to do anything and if they do, we’ll turn them down. My husband currently works an on call with a schedule of 2 days on, 2 days off. So sometimes we move holidays for when he is home. Imagine Christmas 2 days after the official holiday. This is how we ensure that we grow together.
Note to Post: Bethany lost many of her photos due to an electronic glitch. She finally found the one above. Bethany’s words about this photo:
“Finally found one of my littles. This is my favorite because it almost didn’t happen. The baby had open heart surgery at 13 days old and the surgeon said he was lucky to be alive for surgery because it was the worse case of the his condition he had ever seen. This photo is blown up in my living room and is my constant reminder how blessed I am.”
