I never imagined that children of my own would not be part of my life journey but as we know the universe’s plan and your plans may not always align.
My MOMspiration is multi-faceted. I am in awe everyday of the strength and courage of all Mothers. I have learned so much from the many women in my life and their journeys—forged with determination, independence, humility and love…I often think how in the world did my mother do it—4 children under the age of 6 by the time she was 26. At 26 I could barely get myself to work on time let alone be responsible for a family of 6. And then I look to my amazing Grandmother’s and Great Aunts, Aunts and 2nd cousins who were always there for us.
My family raises strong women. My Great Grandmother (Grammy Gwinn) actually divorced in the early 1900’s & raised my grandfather on her own. My Grandmother (Grama Morrissey) on my Dad’s side raised 12 children and my great aunt (Auntie) raised her daughter (Sheila) and helped raise us after her husband passed at a very young age. My Maternal Grandmother (Meme) insisted on working out of the house fueling her creative side while working in fashion. Each of these amazing strong, independent, passionate women inspired & shaped the woman I have become today.
And though I may not be blessed with children of my own – I take great pride knowing that I too have helped shape and inspire and give love to many children. Children of friends and strangers. From my amazing nephews to the children of my BFF’s, to the 750 orphans of Mexico and on to Muthu Lakshmi (my beautiful sponsor child from India who is now in teaching college). Of course I’d be remiss not to mention I am also a fur-mom with 2 rescue kitties that I’ve raised for the last 12 years!
I’ve been so blessed to share, love and inspire—so the universe’s plan may not have been my plan but I am thankful for the mothering it has brought to me.
